ESC Project in the Network SIP
MANUAL WORK, SUPPORTING YOUTH AND LEADERSHIP
About the Network SIP
The Network SIP is an umbrella network of local NGOs, all located in one big building where employees, volunteers, and interns with different backgrounds, skills, motivations, and life situations work together on different projects. SIP stands for Social change In Practice and, as the name implies, our work focuses on building a more equal and democratic society by working with new ideas that impact our community. SIP works with areas such as youth, mobility, integration, accessibility, employment issues, and norm criticism. We like to see SIP as an open-minded and creative workspace that helps people contribute to a better society and find solutions for social challenges, while also offering easy access to opportunities for personal development.
What the practical team at SIP does:
The practical team gives people with fewer opportunities the chance of learning how to work. This includes basics like working from a schedule or following specific work instructions, but also more practical knowledge about tools, construction and secure work gear. The team spend the work days mainly outside, in any weather conditions (a common saying here in Sweden is "there is no bad weather, only bad clothing").
As a volunteer you will work in the team together with the other team members, learning about carpentry, welding and construction. In addition to that, the projects also offer the volunteer the possibility to develop their leading skills by leading the practical team and supporting the team members within it to come closer to the labor market. The team members change from month to month and the target groups differ. There might be Swedish interns or short-term international volunteers as well as people who need work training
before they are able to enter the labor market. You will have a mentor and supervisor who will be the responsible person for your project and daily tasks.
Work-schedule
The working time is from 9 am until 4 pm. The volunteers will be working for 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday. The volunteer is encouraged to take courses in Swedish as not all the team members feel comfortable speaking English. The volunteer decides together with the supervisor the amount of time spent on learning it every week.
Besides 2 days off per week, volunteers are granted another 24 days off for 12 months (2 days off per month).
